USAID support was crucial in achieving the following results in FY2008-2009:
 
Economic Reforms

  • Trained over 750 mid-level Philippine government officials, private sector and non-governmental organizations in international trade policy formulation and trade negotiations
  • Helped establish the electronic connectivity between the Bureau of Customs and 11 other trade-regulatory agencies , streamlining trade-related administrative procedures and harmonizing import permit procedures
  • Increased air access to regional destinations with 10 new Air Service agreements
  • Reduced transport logistics cost by 45% along Western roll-on roll-off (RoRo) route
  • Reduced power costs by approximately 5% in two PEZA zones
  • Biotech corn now exceeds 400,000 hectares per year (10% of crop)
  • About 550 banking units profitably providing loans and deposit services to over 640,000 microenterprise borrowers nationwide; over 2 million loans have been granted to date totalling P 24.7 billion (roughly $ 551 million) for microentrepreneurs

 
Peace and Development

  • 53 community-based infrastructure projects completed; 4 regional impact projects underway
  • 45 new high schools provided with internet-connected computers and 35 elementary schools with teacher-use internet-connected computers
  • 11% increase in the intra-regional exports selected commodities
  • 840 former combatants and community members trained on new production and marketing technologies for high value commodities
  • 4,500 disputes successfully settled by community-based volunteers in the ARMM and other conflict-affected areas; success rate improved to 87% in 2008
  • 81 clan conflicts settled in rido-prone provinces of Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Maguindanao, Shariff Kabunsuan and Sulu
  • 9 cities and 30 conflict-prone municipalities in Mindanao undertaking governance reforms and improving overall business environment
