MICRONUTRIENT OPERATIONAL STRATEGIES AND TECHNOLOGIES (MOST) PROJECT
The MOST project provides technical assistance that supports the Philippine Food Fortification Program of providing an additional 50% of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin A, iron and iodine particularly by vulnerable groups (pre-school children and women)through mandatory and voluntary fortification of processed foods.
The project is implemented by Washington-based International Science and Technology Institute through its local staff.
USAID supports efforts to provide additional intake of at least 50 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for vitamin A, iron and
iodine through food fortification particularly by vulnerable groups (pre-school children and women).
The Food Fortification Program is a direct implementation of Republic Act 8976 mandating the fortification
of flour with vitamin A and iron, sugar with vitamin A, oil with vitamin A, and rice with iron by 2004.
The program also supports advocacy activities for the passage of laws that provide incentives to
food fortification.
The project ends in September 2005.
