PHL, US sign agreements to reinforce commitment to growth
MANILA — Bilateral agreements affirming US continued support for Mindanao’s development via the Partnership for Growth (PFG) mechanism will be signed between the U.S. and Philippine officials on Saturday, May 5.
Signing for the Philippine Government will be Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima and Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Chair Luwalhati Antonino.
For the US side, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg and USAID/Philippines Mission Director Gloria D. Steele will sign.
”The signing affirms USAID’s support for the Partnership for Growth and continued support for Mindanao development and assistance for the conflict-affected areas,” the U.S. embassy said.
At the 2+2 US-Philippine Ministerial Meeting in Washington on April 30, the PFG’s Joint Statement of Principles that was signed in Manila on November 16 last year was reaffirmed by the bilateral partners.
Both sides declared they are seeking “to mobilize a broad range of Philippine and U.S. entities within and outside their governments to achieve a more accelerated, sustained, and inclusive growth path for the Philippines.”(PNA)
