DESPITE resistance from militant groups in Iloilo City against the upcoming America in 3D roadshow, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog lauded the activity as an opportunity to know the Americans well and their culture.

Mabilog said he is looking forward to making the city and province of Iloilo an investment and tourism destination by the Americans.

The roadshow will open at SM City Iloilo on March 2.

The 3D roadshow highlights the American government’s efforts for “Diplomacy, Development and Defense” in the country. It will also focus on the celebration of Filipino-American friendship, showcasing American culture, business, including the US Embassy services in the Philippines.

Mabilog said this is an opportunity for Ilonggos to meet representatives of the US Embassy, including experts from the Visa Section, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the US Foreign Commercial Service, the US Agency for International Development, the Foreign Agricultural Service, the Peace Corps, and the Philippine-American Educational Foundation.

Visiting American officials and servicemen will also help in community projects such as school painting of the Esteban Juntado Elementary School and mangrove planting at the Iloilo River in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo district.

Meanwhile, local militants headed by Bayan-Panay slam the scheduled roadshow in the city.

Lean Porquia of Bayan-Panay said the real meaning of America in 3D is “Deception, Domination and Destruction”, which must be opposed by the Ilonggos.

Porquia said his group is ready to conduct picket-rallies against the presence of Americans here. Joining the protest are allied militant organizations such as League of Filipino Students, Gabriela, Pamanggas, Panay Alliance Karapatan, KMU ad Kadamay.
