MABS-Mindanao intends to bring about a sizable expansion of loan and deposit banking services to microenterprises and other groups at lower socio-economic levels in Mindanao. It assists participating rural banks and cooperative rural banks in Mindanao to significantly increase the services they provide to the microenterprise sector. MABS-M provides technical assistance, training, and limited resource support to those participating rural banks and cooperative rural banks so that they can profitably and sustainably expand their loan and deposit portfolios to microenterprises.

Under the MABS-M Program, some 100 interested and qualified banking units throughout Mindanao and some areas outside of Mindanao will receive intensive technical assistance and training in microfinance lending and deposit mobilization. Additionally, these banks may receive other limited resource support. It is anticipated that, with the support provided, the participating banks will significantly expand their microenterprise portfolio, and that microenterprise lending will eventually constitute a significant part of the banks' businesses.
USAID's principal partner in the MABS-M effort is the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP). One of the objectives of the program is to develop within RBAP a capability to promote and facilitate the adoption of the "MABS-M Approach"in Rural Banks throughout the Philippines.
The MABS-M Program has four offices throughout the country. Chemonics, Inc is the principal technical assistance contractor for the MABS-M effort.
