Davao Forum on Governance and Power Sector Reform
With USAID support, The Asia Foundation (TAF) and the Mindanao Business Council (MinBC) held a forum on power sector reform and its links to transparent and accountable governance. The forum was held on 25-26 Aug 2009 in Davao City, with over 100 representatives from local government units, national government offices, business and civil society organizations in Mindanao.
The forum featured discussions on the Mindanao power situation, alternative energy sources, financing support to the energy sector and the importance of corporate social responsibility in power sector reform. The workshop produced action plans from the participants, which include possible amendments to the energy law, stronger regulatory mechanisms, and development of local power sources and use of clean and alternative energy. USAID supports TAF and its sub-grantee MinBC through the Transparent Accountable Governance 3 (TAG3) Project. The project assists 9 cities and 30 municipalities in Mindanao, and their civil society and business sector partners, in various aspects of local governance.
